Josephine Clara Todd Hayden died Tuesday, February 1, 1966 in Burlington, Colorado after being in ill health about 18 months. Her funeral service was delayed pending return of her oldest son, Edward, Jr., who was overseas in Vietnam.
She was born February 27, 1918 at Russell Springs, Kansas, the daughter of Otis and Rachel Elsie Todd. She came to Sherman County in 1922 and was married to Edward L. Hayden on November 23, 1938 at the Catholic Church in Goodland, Kansas. She graduated from Sherman County High School in 1937. She was active in church affairs and was a member of the altar society, Lend-A-Hand-Club and Sunflower Club. She was especially fond of her many grandchildren and enjoyed cooking and embroidery. She always had a beautiful garden at her farm home 13 miles south of Ruleton, Kansas. She had three married daughters, Shirley JoAnn Anderson, Doris Elaine Armstrong, and Clara Jo Gillum. She also had three sons, Edward L., Jr., James Lawrence, and Richard Lee. She had three brothers Merton, Robert, and Delbert Todd. Mourning her passing are many grandsons and granddaughters. Rosary services were held at Sage Funeral Home, and her funeral was held February 4, 1966, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Paul Meitl officiating. |
